As moms, we don’t have time for fluffy goal setting tactics. In this episode, I get into the nitty gritty of why goal setting is so important for mom entrepreneurs and how we can set goals based on our current season of life.

Goal setting is crucial for mom entrepreneurs, just as it is for any business owner, but I find a lot of moms struggle with setting goals because they feel stuck on how to achieve their big goals in the limited pockets of time that they have.

First, I want to talk about why I think goal setting is important for mom entrepreneurs.

Why goal setting is important for mom entrepreneurs

Clarity of Purpose: Setting clear and specific goals helps mom entrepreneurs define their purpose and direction. It provides a roadmap for their business, allowing them to stay focused on what truly matters.

Time Management: Moms often juggle multiple responsibilities, including family and business. Goal setting helps them prioritize tasks, allocate time efficiently, and strike a balance between work and family life.

Motivation and Inspiration: Having well-defined goals gives mom entrepreneurs a sense of purpose and motivation. It becomes a source of inspiration during challenging times, helping them persevere through obstacles.

Measurable Progress: Goals should be measurable, allowing mom entrepreneurs to track their progress. This enables them to celebrate achievements, identify areas for improvement, and make necessary adjustments to stay on course.

Resource Allocation: Limited time and resources are common challenges for mom entrepreneurs. Setting goals helps them allocate resources effectively, ensuring they invest time, energy, and money where it matters most.

Professional Growth: Goal setting encourages mom entrepreneurs to continuously learn and grow. Whether it’s acquiring new skills, expanding their network, or exploring new opportunities, goals drive professional development.

Work-Life Balance: With the demands of both business and family life, achieving a healthy work-life balance is crucial for mom entrepreneurs. Setting goals allows them to establish boundaries and prioritize tasks, preventing burnout.

Financial Stability: Financial goals are often a priority for entrepreneurs. Whether it’s achieving a certain level of revenue, saving for future investments, or managing expenses, setting financial goals contributes to the long-term stability of the business.

Adaptability: The business landscape is dynamic, and mom entrepreneurs need to be adaptable. Setting flexible goals allows them to adjust their strategies based on changing circumstances while keeping the overall vision intact.

Role Modeling: By setting and achieving their goals, mom entrepreneurs become positive role models for their children. They demonstrate the importance of ambition, hard work, and perseverance, instilling valuable life lessons.

How to set goals based on your current season of life

For example, I am a mom of a 3.5 year old and an almost 3 month old so my time is a little more limited than someone who has older children who are more independent.

That means that most of my tasks need to be money generating activities because I don’t have time to do things that don’t convert…even if it’s something that I enjoy doing.

So instead of overwhelming myself and setting a bunch of goals that I likely won’t be able to accomplish, I like to focus on achieving one big goal per quarter.

In episode 10 of the podcast, I talked with Jordan Schanda King about the 90 day planning process and I am a huge fan of that system and have been ever since starting my business back in 2016 so I highly recommend it.

Go check it out if you’re struggling to create goals that feel manageable in your current season of life. Trust me, 90 day planning is a game changer.
