Working from home and communicating mainly with tiny humans all day can be both exhausting and isolating. That’s why I believe moms, especially mom entrepreneurs, need to find a community so that you can fill your cup and be in the company of others who understand exactly what you’re going through.

In today’s episode, we’re talking about the importance of community as a mom entrepreneur so let’s dive in.

I wanted to quickly touch on my journey to seeking community and then I will get into the more tangible tips and tricks part of the episode where I share why community is so important.

I started my business back in 2016 when I still had a full time job, was planning a wedding, and in grad school and at that time, since I had a lot of stuff going on in my personal life, I didn’t really feel like I was lacking in community.

Fast forward to 2020 when the world completely changed and I was navigating my first pregnancy in the midst of a pandemic.

I have always been an introvert who had a relatively small circle of friends. I was actually one of the first of my friend group to have a child and I got pregnant right before the pandemic and had my first child in June of 2020, so needless to say, it was pretty much just me, my husband, and our baby for the first year of his life.

Sure, I saw my parents every so often but we weren’t able to really socialize the way we would have if it wasn’t for the pandemic so on top of already being a work from home mom (which is already pretty isolating in itself), I also wasn’t able to tap into the local community either so feelings of isolation really started to creep in that year.

In 2020, I started to seek community online more so than ever before because we were all pretty much stuck at home for the majority of the year.

Now in 2024, both online and offline communities are super important for me and I have plans to create in person opportunities for mom entrepreneurs in my local area very soon.

Now that I’ve briefly shared my story about my journey to finding community as a new mom, let’s talk about why community is so important for mom entrepreneurs.

The Importance of Community as a Mom Entrepreneur

  • Support and Encouragement: Being a mom entrepreneur can be isolating at times. A supportive community provides encouragement, understanding, and empathy, especially during challenging times. It offers a safe space to share struggles, celebrate victories, and exchange advice.
  • Networking Opportunities: Building connections within a community opens doors to collaboration, partnerships, and potential clients. Networking with other mom entrepreneurs allows for knowledge sharing, skill development, and access to valuable resources.
  • Accountability: A community can help mom entrepreneurs stay accountable to their goals and commitments. By sharing progress and milestones with peers, they can receive feedback, stay focused, and maintain momentum in their businesses.
  • Learning and Growth: Being part of a community provides opportunities for continuous learning and personal growth. Through workshops, webinars, and discussions, mom entrepreneurs can expand their skills, stay updated on industry trends, and gain new perspectives.
  • Emotional Well-being: Juggling the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship can be overwhelming. A supportive community offers emotional support, validation, and a sense of belonging, reducing stress and promoting overall well-being.
  • Empowerment: Being surrounded by like-minded individuals who understand the unique challenges of balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship can empower mom entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams with confidence. They can draw inspiration from others’ success stories and feel empowered to overcome obstacles along their journey.

In summary, community provides mom entrepreneurs with the support, networking opportunities, accountability, learning, emotional well-being, and empowerment they need to thrive personally and professionally.

I would love to know, how important is community to you?
